Happy Father's Day

First, a very happy and holy Father's Day to all who fulfill the role of Father in our community. We appreciate all that you do to support and guide your families. You are loved!

Carnival time is finally here. I remember arriving just a few days before Carnival four years ago. It was a great way to be welcomed into this parish family. I ask all of you to be sure to volunteer at least one night as we welcome the community here to St. Gregory's. We can't be as successful without the help of each and every parishioner. I promise there is a role for everyone. The Carnival supports the many good works of this parish, in particular the financial support of our Academy. The Super 50/50 has really taken off and we have had more returns to date than ever before in our history. Please make sure that you get yours returned as soon as possible. I look forward to seeing everyone on the midway!

After Kindergarten graduation I headed over to PST radio station to record a radio commercial for our carnival with Gilda Picerno, from Roma and Investors Bank. The soon merging banks will be our Diamond Sponsor this year.

June Celebrations

Next week, St. Gregory the Great Academy and many other schools in our area will celebrate graduations. The Academy will be graduating an inaugural class of 65 eighth graders who are a credit to our parochial school. This special time of year reflects growth as our young people with their families looking on, transition from one stage to another. Please know how proud we are of all of our young people.

This also marks an important time in our community as we prepare for Carnival, which is always an exciting time for our parish family. We work together to bring the community onto our campus to meet and have fun. This year you will find a refreshed and reinvigorated Carnival with new trailer games, a wider selection of food vendors, and the best rides around. The Super 50/50s have really taken off and many more sales have been reported this year than ever before. Please consider volunteering your time in helping make this year’s Carnival a success. Proper attire for Church

As warmer weather sets in, we are tempted to become more casual in the way we dress. I ask that parishioners consider how they are approaching the altar of God to worship him. There is an old expression, “The habit does not make the monk, but it helps.” I believe this is true for all of us. Our exterior appearance does have meaning. At Mass, we encounter God face to face at the wedding feast of the Lamb. No one would think of attending a wedding
in shorts and an old T-shirt. Ladies, please dress modestly. It is harmful to your dignity as a woman and a distraction to others to dress otherwise. Gentlemen, we should be wearing long pants, instead of shorts and flip flops. Men need to be a good example that what we are doing is meaningful to us. The clothing that we choose does send a message.

Our Blessed Mother

Since it is the month of Mary, our Blessed Mother, I wanted to share this pray of Pope Francis that he shared with the Italian Bishop’s Conference. I was really moved by it.

Mother of the silence that preserves the mystery of God, deliver us from the idolatry of the present, to which those who forget are condemned. Purify the eyes of pastors with the balm of memory: that we might return to the freshness of the beginning, for a praying and penitent Church.

Mother of the beauty that blossoms from fidelity to daily work, remove us from the torpor of laziness, of pettiness, and defeatism. Cloak Pastors with that compassion that unifies and integrates: that we might discover the joy of a humble and fraternal servant Church.

Mother of the tenderness which enfolds in patience and mercy, help us burn away the sadness, impatience, and rigidity of those who have not known what it means to belong.
Intercede with your Son that our hands, our feet and our hearts may be swift: that we may build the Church with the truth in charity.

Mother, we will be the People of God, on pilgrimage towards the Kingdom. Amen.

Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. We recall the most basic mystery of our Faith. God is a relationship of persons united in divine love to one another. As His creatures we are created in His image and likeness. We should ask ourselves today, how well are we living up to who we are made to be? Are we mirroring God in His love for the other. It begins with our relationship with Him, our families, our friends, our coworkers, the poor, and the whole world.
